One of the core tenets of Swatch's success since the first Swatch watch was introduced in 1983 is the sheer variety of designs available, which heightens the inherent collectability of each new release. You could buy a Swatch for any outfit and any occasion, and neither your wallet nor watch collection would be any worse for wear. Around 10,000 different Swatch watches have been released in the past four decades, resulting in some pretty wild and memorable designs. All we've ever wanted to do with our Swatch collaborations is to tap into the brand's rich aesthetic history and leave a mark of our own, and this time we are taking a postmodern approach and “remixing” one of our favorite models ever from 1990, The Stoplight. The “51” refers to the number of parts inside the fully mechanical auto-winding movement, a 100% Swiss-made marvel of modern industrial watchmaking that Swatch launched to critical acclaim in 2013. With 90 hours of power reserve on tap, an anti-magnetic mainspring made from Nivachron™, and titanium-based componentry that resists physical shocks, temperature swings, and atmospheric corrosion, the Sistem51 remains the most elegant, durable, and high-performing mechanical movement in its price category.
